Gyroscopes have been around for a long time. They use a spinning wheel and housing to show off some mind-boggling physics. They seemingly defy gravity by balancing on a pen, or a finger. Homade was tasked with devising packaging for the Roda gyroscope as it excelled on Kickstarter.

Roda is a beautifully engineered desktop gyroscope that uses a spinning wheel and precision housing to show off mind-bending physics. Balanced on a pen, fingertip, or stand, it feels almost like it is defying gravity.

Homade was brought in to design packaging that could keep up with the product’s success on Kickstarter.

Packaging goals

  • Celebrate the engineering and craftsmanship of the gyroscope
  • Protect the product in transit while still feeling premium and giftable
  • Communicate what Roda is and how it works at a glance for new customers

Approach

  • Designed packaging around clean product photography and simple copy, letting the object stay the hero
  • Used structure and layout to guide unboxing, from first impression to assembly and display
  • Considered both on-shelf presence and the direct-to-consumer unboxing moment

The result is packaging that feels as intentional and precise as the Roda gyroscope itself, supporting both its Kickstarter momentum and long-term brand presence.
